Introduction
This portfolio is an analysis on Old World history (European and Middle Eastern), covering topics that range from the 7th century to the modern day. There are several college-level essays throughout this website that describe different aspects of Western History, namely European History. While military history is my preferred area of study, there is also an emphasis on the art and culture of Europe and how it transformed over the centuries. Read on to learn more about me and how I fulfilled my purpose in writing this portfolio.
About the Writer
I am a student at UNC Charlotte who has a large interest in writing and learning about history. Throughout high school I was able to have many opportunities to learn about historical events not commonly known to the average person. Through college-level classes, such as AP World History, AP European History, and AP American History, I was able to get a large understanding on events that shaped the world today.
Since I was a child I have indulged in strategy computer games. As I played these historical games, I was subconsciously being educated on the era that the game took place in. These games consisted of content that ranged anywhere from 4000 BCE to modern day concepts on civilization. It is important to know that these games, while they did have military aspects to them, were not war-based and concentrated very much on how civilizations developed through changing culture, technology, and social opinions. I knew what I had learned was accurate information due to my amount of success in history and human geography classes throughout high school and my first year of college so far.
Thanks to the amount of school work in my later years of high school and college, I no longer have time to play those games. However, when I am not working on school work I enjoy watching football, exercising, and attending drill with the North Carolina National Guard. I decided to pursue a military career in my third year of high school and enlisted in the National Guard as an Intelligence Analyst earlier this year. Although my majors are Business and Criminal Justice, I have promised myself that I will take as many history classes in college as possible.
Beyond this page are writings I have developed over the past couple of years in school. I have included essays on topics I particularly enjoyed learning and writing about, such as the rise and fall of the Soviet Union, the Dutch Republic, the Industrialization of Europe, and the development of European art since the Renaissance times. This Portfolio is the result of my compiled learning of historical topics throughout high school with applied techniques learned in my UWRT 1103 freshmen college writing class.
